VOLUNTEER

Get involved with the Hornby Festival by volunteering and experiencing a variety of exciting and rewarding performances. Volunteers are the mainstays of this festival. With your dedication and effort, we continue to put the Festival on each year.

VOLUNTEER JOBS

A variety of jobs are waiting for you: examples are parking supervision, front of house, supervising spot performances, merchandise sales, concession, clean-up crew, and setting up and tearing down venue items. Most volunteer jobs do not require specialized skills (with a few exceptions). We also need volunteers for our Fundraisers:  50/50 Ticket Sales, Community Dance, Home and Garden Tour, and The Birdhouse Auction.

Thanks for applying to volunteer with us! We'll get back to you soon.

VOLUNTEERS

  • Must be available for different shifts from late-July to mid-August. While we have other volunteer opportunities throughout the year, these dates outline our busiest season and highest needs for volunteers.

  • Must take the commitment seriously, as the Festival team depends on all workers being available as scheduled. Specific details will be provided related to the specific shift you are selected for.

  • Must be 14 years or older. (High schoolers can use these shifts toward their graduation requirements!)

  • Are needed for a minimum of 2, four-hour shifts.

  • Need a basic level of English (knowledge of other languages is an asset!).

  • Are selected at the discretion of the organisation.

WHY  VOLUNTEER

Here are how the reciprocal shifts and Festival tickets work:

  • One free entry for the Festival performance of your on-site volunteer shift.

  • If the volunteer shift is not related to one particular show, volunteers may receive one Festival ticket for a Rosemuir Farm evening event.  For a classical concert, only blanket seating is available for volunteers.  Reserved seating is for purchased tickets only by Super Fans! These tickets must be booked through the Festival office and are subject to availability.

    • If you volunteer at one of the spot appearances - Art in Unusual Places - for example, volunteer shifts are short; therefore volunteers will be required to work two of these shifts to earn one Festival ticket.

  • Evening cleanup volunteers who have a truck and are willing to remove the garbage from site and deliver it to the Recycling Depot the next day will receive an additional ticket to a performance at the farm.

  • Volunteers receive an invitation to the "volunteer appreciation party" which is usually held the day after the last concert.

VERBAL CONTRACT

As a volunteer, you agree to the following terms and conditions of being a volunteer with the Hornby Festival:

  • Completing my Festival volunteer assignment as you have been trained: showing up on time, staying the required duration, wearing a volunteer tag or visi vest, and refraining from drinking and smoking while on shift

  • Discussing scheduling issues with the Volunteer Coordinator as far in advance of my shift as possible should an unexpected change in schedule be needed

  • Working cooperatively with the Festival's volunteer Board of Directors and staff, who put in many volunteer hours themselves

  • Being friendly, helpful, and professional at all times during your shifts, and respectful with other volunteers, staff, performers, and patrons of the Festival.
