Meet at Hornby Island Community Hall

Take this guided forest walk with Elder Barbara Whyte (Billy), Pentlatch Knowledge Keeper and member of the K’ómoks Nation, while listening to the recorded Residential School Survivor Stories of two elders from Gold River, John Amos and Barbara Wells (our Artists In Residence), and a circle led by Elder Barb Whyte (Billy) after the walk. The Hornby Festival has been working under the Cultural Direction of Elder Barbara Whyte (Billy) to document the stories of Vancouver Island Indigenous elders as part of the regions cultural record. This growing number of portraits of the elders who have participated in this documenting project thus far will hang on the walls in the round room of the Community Hall to remember and treasure the sharing of these accounts.

Bring suitable footwear and be ready for a walk in the woods.
